What does the tourist industry really mean to Cuba?

More than 3 million foreign nationals visit Cuba each year, and within this number most book Havana accommodation or stay in the beach resort of Varadero. Tourism is a huge source of income to the island. Its temperate climate, white sandy beaches, and intriguing history make this a haven for visitors looking to discover more.

For an island basically closed off to the western world, it hasn’t fared too badly: The education system is good, the economy is decent, there are seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites on the island, plus several Natural Biosphere reserves and 257 national monuments. This all adds up to a great place to visit.

Not only does the island attract beach lovers and all-inclusive hotel dwellers, it also has appeal for intrepid explorers who wish to self-cater in a Havana apartment or stay in a Casa Particular with a Cuban staff available at their disposal.

If you are a keen photographer, Cuba presents hundreds of kilometres of coastline, lush rainforests, and impressive Colonial architecture to snap in a moment´s notice.

For history lovers there is the museum of the revolution, the Castro and Che Guevara mountain hideaways, statues and monuments, the Colonial houses, and of course the local haunts of the legends who made Cuba what you see today.

For lovers of movies and literature Cuba has a vast celebrity cast list who has resided here at some point in their lives. Each were inspired by the palm-lined coast, the smoky bars, and the Latin dancing – Ernest Hemingway, Frank Sinatra and Winston Churchill all remained on the island for some time.

Most of the tourists to Cuba have been arriving from Canada, the UK and Europe for many years ensuring that the island economy remains buoyant. Now that border restriction have been relaxed from the USA to Cuba, the tourist trade on the island is primed for another growth spurt.

Cuba is for everyone, not just the beach lovers. Keen anglers, trekkers, walkers, divers, and bird watchers will all enjoy this magical paradise. It’s the perfect time to book your holiday in Cuba to enjoy everything it has to offer.
